Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement
for Chrysler Minivans

The wiper motor is located in the center of the wiper assembly mounted in front of the windshield. Remove wipers (you'll need a puller to loosen the wiper arm from the shaft after removing the securing nut). Remove hex-head screws from top, then lift the top piece from the assembly. Watch for washer hose connections, remove carefully.

[The following may be done more easily by removing the wiper assembly from the engine compartment]

Now you can clearly see the wiper assembly. NOTE THE POSITION OF THE PIVOT ARM EXTENDING FROM THE CENTER OF THE WIPER MOTOR. Your new motor will have to be mounted with this arm in the same position.

Remove the nut holding the pivot arm to the motor shaft in the center. Remove the three mounting bolts securing the motor to the mounting plate. It's on good & will need some force to break free. THIS WILL ALSO MOVE THE POSITION OF THE SHAFT & PIVOT ARM, which is why it's important to note it's position BEFORE this procedure. There are 2 wire harness connectors on the rear of the motor which will have to be removed once it is free.

You're ready to install your new motor. Attach the 2 wire connectors, position motor & secure with the three mounting bolts. OPERATE THE MOTOR SO THAT IT WILL STOP AT ITS "RESTING" POSITION, ALLOWING YOU TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT PLACEMENT OF THE PIVOT ARM. Align the arm, and mark the shaft & arm indicating their present position. The shaft will move around while you secure the bolt, so the correct alignment must be marked-off before you do this. (Just for reference, the pivot arm in the 97 Voyager I worked on rested at the "2:30" position looking toward the rear of the van, of course yours may be completely different).

Once mounted, give the motor another cycle before mounting the wiper arms. Then mount the arms & test for proper alignment before reattaching the rest of the wiper assembly housing. Watch that the wiper arms don't "catch" each other as they travel.
