How The Left's Condescension Fed The Right's Revenge
John Erickson

The Left made the mistake of dismissing criticism from the Right as merely the cries of the ignorant. They let more illegals rush the border. They exacerbated the war in Ukraine, ignored crimes by their president and shoved unnatural gender definitions down the nation's legislative throat. They went too far.
The right is doing a terrific job of attempting to turn this around. So much so that the core of the Conservative populous are understandably euphoric at the prospect of giving America a chance to survive after the previous administration's national self-immolation.
But euphoria blinds one from discretion. There is the legal fact of the nation's right to deport illegal aliens, then there's the human impulse that senses when something's not right irrespective of the law. Border Czar Thomas Homan first spoke of only deporting illegals who've committed violent crimes. But now we're seeing an excessive eagerness to undertake a wholesale round-up, justifying it with, "if they don't like it, go to Congress and change the law." He's been given carte blanche to use any means possible, in his opinion, to increase the count.
OK, so what's wrong with that?
We're in a unique situation now thanks to previous policies. There is a larger segment of the illegal immigrant population who are employed, own businesses, homes and etc. They've been established for a few years - technically illegal and ripe for deportation. But that's where public reaction may develop a sympathetic revulsion to the appearance of a cold harshness in the manner of implementation.
Perception is key here.
Wars aren't triggered by reason but by emotion. Even those who believe in a principle will be betrayed by their gut reaction to inhumane action.
The Right is making the same mistake as the Left: ignoring human instinct while riding high. This could start the breech between the MAGA moderates and the hardcore Conservative base. A wrong turn at this juncture could determine the longevity of the entire MAGA platform.
